Summer Associates Program in Washington, DC
Our Washington, DC, office was established in 1980 to better service our national and international clients for whom our presence in the nation's capital was important. With approximately 50 attorneys and professional consultants, the Washington office handles litigation and transactional matters, on both domestic and international levels, and counsels clients on a wide range of business, administrative and legislative matters in the following areas: Litigation, Representation of Foreign and Domestic Corporations in Acquisitions and Joint Ventures Requiring Governmental Approval, Equal Rights Litigation and Compliance, Government Contracts, Antitrust, Telecommunications, Intellectual Property and Product Liability. (Click here for Washington's list of Practice Descriptions.) A significant part of our work involves appearances before, and direct contact and negotiation with, administrative agencies and the Executive Branch of the United States government. This office conducts litigation in jurisdictions throughout the country as well as overseas. We also work with the Administration and Congress on legislative matters, monitor legislation and provide comments and suggestions to committee staff members involved in drafting legislation.
Summer Program
Our Washington, DC, Summer Associate Program is designed to provide a challenging and practical experience in our diverse practice groups: (Click here for summer associates' comments). You will be assigned to actual cases, participate in our mentoring program and attend various workshops including ethics, legal research and writing, case management training, deposition training, as well as antitrust and World Trade Organization proceedings. We also provide many opportunities for our summer associates to attend oral arguments, depositions, negotiations, practice group lunches, and video/teleconferences with clients and our other offices.
Social Events
Throughout the program, the summer associates have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of social events designed to experience the culture of our nation's capital, as well as the culture of our firm. Not only will you attend events in DC's finest theaters, but you will have the chance to visit various museums, sail by the monuments on our Potomac River sunset cocktail cruise, enjoy our annual crab feast, and cheer at the Washington Nationals baseball games! Our social events are geared to allow you to get to know our attorneys on a social basis. You also have the opportunity to visit our New York office to experience the "big firm" side of our practice, attend a "power lunch," and join the firm's private party in the Central Park Zoo where you will meet our New York partners, associates, summer associates, and staff along with their families.
