MEHR

Mr. Brew has handled cases involving a wide variety of legal issues and industries in various different courts and tribunals. He has extensive experience in all phases of commercial litigation, from developing pre-litigation strategy and alternative dispute resolution, through depositions and discovery, motions, trial and appeal.

Mr. Brew has tried cases before juries, judges, and arbitration panels. Mr. Brew also has prosecuted and defended numerous appeals in both state and federal appellate courts that have resulted in significant rulings involving, among other things, antitrust and copyright protection.

In addition to his general commercial litigation practice, Mr. Brew has developed special expertise in antitrust litigation, and disputes involving the entertainment industry, including both film and music. For example:

  • In one of his more high profile cases, Mr. Brew was instrumental in developing and implementing creative legal theories and strategies that enabled one of the largest comic book publishers to untangle its signature property from years of litigation, resulting in one of the most profitable film franchises in its genre.

  • More recently, Mr. Brew has had a lead role in the coordinated defense of multi-defendant antitrust litigation pending in dozens of state and federal courts around the country. This litigation has resulted in a number of significant rulings at the district court and appellate level that impact other antitrust cases around the country.

Mr. Brew does not limit his practice to antitrust and entertainment related disputes. Over the course of his career, he has enjoyed a diverse practice, covering a wide range of other types of legal matters, including unfair competition, franchisee and dealer disputes, labor and employment, and trademark disputes, as well as fraud and breach of contract. He has lectured and published articles on antitrust, class actions, copyright issues, and electronic discovery.

Mr. Brew is a past recipient of Public Counsel’s Wiley Manuel Award for Pro Bono Services, and has served as a mock trial coach and member of the Lawyers’ Advisory Council for the Constitutional Rights Foundation. He has been certified as a volunteer prosecutor through the Los Angeles County Bar Association Trial Attorney Project, and has prosecuted several criminal jury trials to verdict.
