Kerry Alan Scanlon, Chair of our Equal Rights Litigation and Compliance Group, was one of the federal government's top civil rights lawyers. Prior to joining Kaye Scholer, Mr. Scanlon served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice, where he helped develop and enforce the Clinton administration's civil rights agenda, supervised the successful litigation of numerous groundbreaking civil rights cases, and worked with top officials in other agencies on civil rights enforcement. Prior to his government service, he spent a combined 15 years with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, two of the nation's most prominent civil rights organizations. During that time he was successful in over 100 major cases and became a nationally recognized civil rights litigator and trial attorney whose cases often set precedents and achieved landmark results. He also played an instrumental role in the enactment of several major civil rights statutes by the Congress.

At Kaye Scholer, Mr. Scanlon has used those same litigation and problem-solving skills on behalf of a wide variety of corporations, non-profit organizations, public-private entities, educational institutions, and individuals. He has successfully defended some of the largest employment discrimination class actions, and his clients include The Walt Disney Company, Fox Television, National Geographic, The Body Shop International, JP Morgan Chase Bank, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, Kozmo.com, Brooklyn Law School, the National Fair Housing Alliance, and United Cerebral Palsy.

At a time when civil rights is an area of growing concern to the business community, Mr. Scanlon's depth of knowledge brings to our clients seasoned experience in the prevention and litigation of equal rights claims.
