Professional Growth & Advocacy
We strive to support charitable and nonprofit organizations that not only celebrate, support or help advance rights for women, people of color, or sexual orientation, such as Legal Momentum (formerly NOW), Lambda, NAACP, or The Names Project, but also afford our lawyers the opportunity to gain additional legal skills through pro bono work or provide valuable networking to develop crucial business contacts.
Our Diversity & Inclusion Committee, comprised of partners, associates and a staff administrator, leads the firm’s efforts to recruit, retain and promote a diverse group of attorneys and cultivate a workplace in which everyone is valued and accorded equal respect. Below is an overview of the Committee’s programming:
Kaye Scholer lawyers participate in the Firm's diversity training program, which trains a cross-section of partners, counsel and associates at the same time. Through discussion, videos and case studies, participants gain insight into the different viewpoints and workplace challenges of both their peers and others.
Ombuds representatives provide lawyers access to neutral confidants who advocate not for a specific individual, but to ensure that all individuals are treated equitably, fairly and in compliance with firm policy and procedures. The program was established with a special emphasis on protecting employees’ rights relating to gender, race, sexual orientation and religion. However, Ombuds representatives are available to assist lawyers in resolving work-related concerns in an informal, confidential and impartial manner. To contact an Ombuds representative, please go to the Intranet to find your representative.
Kaye Scholer currently hosts six affinity groups: African American; Asian; Latino; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender; Women; and Working Parents. These groups not only serve as support networks, but also accelerate the attainment of professional and business development skills through enhanced mentoring opportunities and a variety of speaker programs. In addition, the groups help Kaye Scholer identify strategies that support our diversity efforts, while fostering a stronger sense of community within the firm. As part of our recruitment efforts, Kaye Scholer actively participates in minority and affinity job fairs throughout the country, including the National Black Law Students Association (BLSA), DuPont Minority and Lavender Fairs.
