Resource Groups

With the Firm's support, Kaye Scholer lawyers have voluntarily formed African American, Asian, Latino, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) and Women's affinity groups. The groups not only provide their participants with support networks and additional mentoring opportunities, but also accelerate the attainment of professional and business development skills. In addition, the groups helped the firm identify strategies that support our diversity efforts, while fostering a stronger sense of community within the firm. As part of our recruitment effort, Kaye Scholer actively participates in minority and affinity job fairs throughout the country. As outlined below, our affinity groups are actively involved in and support many different activities.

Association of Black and Latino Attorneys (ABLA)

ABLA holds informal gatherings for lawyers and summer associates to discuss issues of common concern. Members are active in organizations such as the National Bar Association, the Metropolitan Black Bar Association, the Association of Black Women Attorneys and the Hispanic National Bar Association.

Asian and South Pacific Islander Network (ASPIN)

ASPIN meets over dinner in Asian restaurants to discuss issues of interest or concern. Kaye Scholer lawyers have been active in the Asian American Legal Defense Fund's (AALDEF) pro bono cases. For example, our lawyers have been involved in representing indigent plaintiffs in wage/hour and wage/overtime compensation claims against present and former employers, as well as several other types of cases. Members of the Asian Affinity Group are active in AALDEF, the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY), the South Asian Bar Association of New York (SABANY), and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA).

K-Pride (LGBT)

K-Pride meets regularly, often over dinner at a partner's house. Kaye Scholer lawyers recently won a political asylum case on behalf of a Guatemalan transgender and are currently working on another asylum case for a transgender. Other Kaye Scholer attorneys provide tax advice to Lamda Legal. The Firm is a sponsor of and our attorneys attend the ACLU LGBT & Aids Project Reception, the Lambda Liberty Awards, the LeGal Association Awards Dinner and the Lavender Law Conference.

Kaye Scholer Family Network (KSFN)

The parents affinity group meets periodically to discuss issues and concerns that are unique to working parents. Outside speakers have addressed topics such as setting limits for children, and finding and keeping a good caretaker. Currently, the group is planning a family picnic in Central Park.

Women’s Advancement, Visibility, and Empowerment Initiative (WAVE)

The Firm's women lawyers meet quarterly over lunch to discuss issues such as professional development, work/life balance, and other common concerns. Meetings alternate between being uniquely social to having either outside speakers or Kaye Scholer women attorneys address topics such as financial planning, business development, and work/life balance.
