Sheldon Solow is a partner in the firm’s Chicago office. He has represented and continues to represent a wide variety of constituencies, including secured lenders (lead counsel to Bank Group in Cambridge Industries), purchasers of businesses (Schwinn Bicycle), bondholders (International Knife and Saw), fiduciaries (Trustee of Winstar Communications, Representative for Unknown Asbestos Claimants in Plibrico), special litigation committees (Safety Kleen) and debtors (Kotler Industries) as well as individual clients. He also served as Trustee for Midway Airlines, Inc. — the largest Chapter 7 proceeding in the Northern District of Illinois. Sheldon was appointed by the Honorable Robert Ginsberg as legal representative for the class of unknown malpractice claimants in In re Provident Hospital. In Chambers USA 2013, Sheldon is recognized as a leading practitioner in Bankruptcy & Restructuring. He is ranked in Best Lawyers in America (2011-2016) for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights, and Insolvency and Reorganization Law.

A frequent lecturer, Sheldon has lectured on bankruptcy-related topics to numerous groups, including the American Bankers Association, the Association of Insolvency Accountants and the Senior Forum for Bank Examiners of the Federal Reserve Board. Sheldon also served on the Subcommittee pertaining to Avoiding Powers for the Bankruptcy Reform Commission. He currently is an instructor at Harvard Law School’s Trial Advocacy Workshop and an adjunct professor at the Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Sheldon is a former appointee to the Panel of Standing Trustees for the Northern District of Illinois. He is the author of “Can Lenders Prevent LLC Bankruptcy Filings? A Recent Decision Highlights The Debate,” Banking Law Journal, March 2011, “Bankruptcy Litigation: A Secured Creditor’s Perspective,” Trial Diplomacy Journal, Summer, 1988, “Trustees Avoiding Powers” (co-author) in the 1990 edition of the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education’s Bankruptcy Handbook, and “Redemptions From Failed Hedge Funds: How Should They Be Treated by Courts?” in the BNA, Inc. Securities Regulation & Law report, December 17, 2007. He is a former Chairman of the Chicago Bar Association’s Bankruptcy and Reorganization Committee.

Sheldon currently co-chairs the firm’s Professional Ethics Committee. He also serves as First Vice President of the Chicago District Golf Association and President of its charity arm, The CDGA Foundation.
