Intellectual Property partner Jeffrey Miller will speak at PLI’s seminar “Fundamentals of Patent Prosecution 2016: A Boot Camp for Claim Drafting & Amendment Writing” on July 6-8, 2016 in San Francisco. The three-day program, designed for patent prosecution and litigation attorneys and patent agents, will present the basics of claim drafting, patent application preparation and prosecution and provide a review of recent developments in the law.
Miller will participate in four segments of the boot camp:
- Overview of Claim Drafting and Preparation of Patent Application
This presentation focuses on analyzing the invention disclosure, preparing drawings and claims, choosing embodiments, and preparing the specification and filing the patent application.
- Claim Drafting
This segment will cover the basic claim drafting principles and formats; preparing claims in different statutory classes; different technologies, including mechanical, electrical and chemical; and filing the application.
- Clinic I
Participants will analyze and draft claims to a sample invention and claims will be reviewed and analyzed in small groups and one-on-one with the clinic tutor.
- Clinic II
Participants will receive an amendment problem relating to the sample invention to work on individually. After general discussion, the clinic tutor will review responses in a small group and on a one-on-one basis.
