Kaye Scholer Obtains Federal Circuit Affirmance for The Coleman Company

February 17, 2011
Kaye Scholer successfully represented Jarden Corporation’s subsidiary, The Coleman Company, a global leader in the innovation and marketing of outdoor products, in a Federal Circuit appeal from the summary judgment the firm won last year. Flashlight manufacturer Mag Instrument claimed that Coleman’s headlamp infringed one of Mag’s patents. Kaye Scholer convinced the district court and then the court of appeals to invalidate the patent as having been anticipated by earlier lighting devices — including an 1899 bicycle lamp. Jonathan Rotter argued the case for Coleman and Daniel DiNapoli assisted with the briefing. Aton Arbisser worked on the case in the trial court.
