Kaye Scholer Announces Attorney Elevations for 2013

Two partners and four counsel named in firm’s New York, Los Angeles, Palo Alto and Shanghai offices

New York—Kaye Scholer has elevated two counsel to partner. The firm also announced that four associates have been raised to the position of counsel.

Stephen, Steve, Jeff, Josh, Angela and Sam represent our firm’s future, and have dedicated themselves for many years to reach this great milestone in their careers. We congratulate them all,” said Firm Managing Partner Mike Solow.

Our new partners are:

Stephen C. Holmes, Ph.D. (Intellectual Property/Palo Alto): Holmes focuses on patent litigation and technology-related disputes. He is a registered patent attorney licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and has more than fifteen years of experience litigating in the US, the UK and Europe, including significant trial experience and appellate practice. Prior to joining Kaye Scholer, Holmes was Assistant General Counsel, Litigation, at Affymetrix, Inc., a biotechnology company in Silicon Valley.

Steven R. Wright (Corporate/Shanghai): Wright focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions and foreign direct investment. He has advised major US and European multinational corporations on a wide range of issues relating to their China-based operations, including acquisitions, Sino-foreign joint ventures, establishment of Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprises and Representative Offices, regulatory compliance, corporate governance and employment matters. In addition, he regularly supervises legal work for the Asia-Pacific region in connection with major international transactions.

Our newest counsel are:

Soumitra (Sam) Deka (Intellectual Property/New York): Deka focuses on patent litigation involving pharmaceutical, computer, and telecommunication technologies. Recently, he was part of the trial team that successfully preserved Pfizer’s market exclusivity for the blockbuster drug Viagra®. A registered patent attorney licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, he also has substantial experience with IP due diligence matters, as well as M&A matters involving intellectual property.

Jeffrey A. Misher (Finance/New York): Misher represents financial institutions, corporate borrowers and financial sponsors in the structuring, negotiation and documentation of commercial lending transactions. This includes leveraged acquisition financings, cash-flow and asset-based financings, subscription credit facilities, first- and second-lien debt financings, mezzanine financings, debtor-in-possession financings, Chapter 11 exit financings, restructurings, and work-outs. He also represents financial institutions in structured finance transactions, including trade receivables and equipment lease securitizations.

Joshua S. Stambaugh (Complex Commercial Litigation/Los Angeles): Stambaugh represents companies in all areas of commercial litigation, including breach of contract, antitrust, and consumer fraud class actions, as well as product liability and intellectual property matters. He recently served as second chair in a successful trademark infringement trial, which resulted in a jury verdict awarding millions of dollars in damages to the client. Actively involved in numerous pro bono matters, Stambaugh successfully secured asylum for a young women from Cameroon persecuted on account of her political beliefs.

Angela R. Vicari (Complex Commercial Litigation/New York): Vicari has a broad litigation practice with experience in product liability defense and commercial litigation, including breach of contract, fraud, and securities matters. She has represented pharmaceutical, medical device, and consumer product companies, as well as global financial institutions in disputes in state and federal courts nationwide. An active participant in the firm and in the broader New York legal community, she recently was appointed Chair of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York’s Young Lawyers Committee.

The promotions are effective January 1, 2013, with the exception of Steven Wright, who was elevated to partner in the summer of 2012.
