July 24, 2014

NEW YORK: Satra Sampson-Arokium has joined Kaye Scholer as its new Director of Diversity & Inclusion, resident in the firm’s New York office.

Sampson-Arokium arrives from Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, where she served as a Senior Consultant on Global Diversity. While at Deloitte, she was responsible for working with the Deloitte Global Diversity Team to design, develop and implement leading-edge global diversity and inclusion initiatives. This included providing advisory and consulting support to global functions and member firms on key principles, processes and best practices in diversity, developing and integrating diversity goals and strategies into all business processes and practices, and identifying areas in need of diversity support as well as solutions to address those needs.

“The world is changing, and more than ever, diversity and inclusion is a critical business imperative—something that Kaye Scholer has recognized,” said Sampson-Arokium. “At the same time, our clients are also recognizing the importance of hiring diverse firms to solve some of their most complex issues. My goal is to utilize innovative concepts to transform and integrate our strategic plan into the firm’s business model and to be recognized as a leading law firm in diversity and inclusion.”

Sampson-Arokium will be working closely with firm leadership as well the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, led by Partner Scott Talmadge, to implement organizational change strategies that will make Kaye Scholer’s culture and processes more inclusive, such as communication, recruiting, and professional and client development. She will also lead efforts to create more opportunities for individuals from underrepresented groups to maximize their successes at the firm.

“Over the past two years, we have invested heavily in reviewing and understanding the latest data and research as it relates to diversity and inclusion and identified the challenges that we need to address,” said Talmadge. “Armed with that information, and with the assistance of a noted change consultant, we developed a comprehensive Diversity & Inclusion plan. The first step in the plan was to hire an accomplished senior-level person to help us incorporate inclusion into every aspect of the firm’s culture. Few people are more qualified or more passionate about this crucial management issue than Satra.”

Prior to her appointment as Senior Consultant on Global Diversity, Sampson-Arokium held other positions within Deloitte related to talent development and ethics and compliance. She holds a Masters of Public Administration from Marist College and earned a BA in Political Science from the State University of New York at Albany.
