Kaye Scholer Recognized For Participation in Public Service Program

October 26, 2007

At a breakfast reception at Gracie Mansion on October 26, 2007, the City of New York recognized Kaye Scholer and other participating law firms for the firm's assistance in providing pro bono services to the New York City Law Department. Over the last two years, Kaye Scholer has contributed nearly $1.8 million in pro bono legal services to the Public Service Program, which eases the Law Department's caseload by giving associates opportunities for hands-on assignments. Kaye Scholer partners James Herschlein and Arthur Brown attended the reception hosted by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.

In January 2007, Kaye Scholer partners James Herschlein, Sheila Boston and Arthur Brown approached the Public Service Program Coordinators of the New York City Corporate Counsel, and proposed creating a program in which Kaye Scholer associates would be assigned to a Corporation Counsel Office in one of New York City's outer boroughs, one day a week for two to three months to take and defend depositions on behalf of the City. Since implementing the program, 32 Kaye Scholer associates have participated in the program, taking or defending more than 175 depositions in the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn. Many more associates await their turn in the deposition program.
