Pamela Yates and Diane Frankle Named “Top Women Lawyers” in California

May 8, 2013

The Daily Journal has included Partners Pamela Yates and Diane Holt Frankle on its annual list of the Top Women Lawyers in California for 2013. The publication reviewed hundreds of nominations from law firms, public agencies, nonprofits and universities before choosing 75 litigators and 25 transactional lawyers whose work is having a broad impact on the California legal community.

Pam is named to the list for the fifth consecutive year for her work in the area of product liability law, with her recent victory for Endo Pharmaceuticals Holdings and its subsidiary Vintage Pharmaceuticals highlighted in this year’s publication. As lead counsel, Pam helped secure a denial of class certification as well as a partial grant of summary judgment for her clients in a case involving allegedly improperly packaged birth control pills that were the subject of a voluntary recall. As Pam tells The Daily Journal, “Defeating class certification is very important in pharmaceutical injury cases or in recall type cases. So it’s an important victory for the client.”

Diane is recognized by The Daily Journal for the second year in a row and focuses on mergers & acquisitions and corporate governance law. She worked on numerous significant transactions in the past year, including representing BioTime, Inc. in its acquisition through subsidiary BioTime Acquisition Corp. of stem cell assets from Geron Corp., as well as representing Novartis in its exclusive option to acquire Selexys Pharmaceuticals Corp. Diane discusses what it takes to be successful in transactional law with The Daily Journal, noting that “It starts with being a good listener and being able to take each party’s side in a discussion, so that you are able to make sure everybody understands what the other party’s bottom line is and what they are not going to be willing to do.”
