Michael Malecek Named One of the Top IP Lawyers in California by The Daily Journal

April 9, 2014

Partner Michael Malecek, Co-Chair of Kaye Scholer’s Intellectual Property Department, was recognized as one of the “Top Intellectual Property Attorneys” in California for the second year in a row by The Daily Journal. The publication singled out his “sweeping victory” on behalf of pioneering biotechnology company Complete Genomics in patent litigation with competitor Illumina Inc., in which the judge ruled that Complete Genomics’ DNA sequencing kits did not violate Illumina’s patents and dismissed the lawsuits with prejudice. The matter was successfully settled in July 2013 and recently named one of the year’s “Top Verdicts” by The Daily Journal. Malecek’s work on behalf of client Sequenom Inc., the first company to develop noninvasive prenatal diagnosis methods, was also cited by the publication.
