David Sausen Wins 2014 NYSBA President’s Pro Bono Service Award

April 30, 2014

Kaye Scholer Tax & Private Clients Partner David Sausen was honored by the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) with its 2014 President’s Pro Bono Service Award for the First Judicial District (Manhattan). NYSBA honors only one lawyer per district each year at the ceremony, held at the State Bar Center in Albany, NY. David, an active member of Kaye Scholer’s Pro Bono Committee for the past ten years, was recognized for his longstanding commitment to helping nonprofit organizations achieve and maintain tax-exempt status. In 2013 alone, he advised 20 nonprofit organizations across various fields on matters crucial to the success of their work, including private inurement, self-dealing, unrelated business taxable income, and excess benefit transactions. Many organizations are so pleased with David’s initial guidance that they come back to him time and time again for additional counsel, with one client noting that David’s “swiftness and thoroughness of support has made an enormous difference to my organization...At key junctures in our history, he has helped to light our path.”

The annual NYSBA President’s Pro Bono Service Awards are bestowed on members of the legal profession whose outstanding pro bono contributions have greatly expanded equal access to justice for the most vulnerable members of our society.
