The American Lawyer’s 2016 Summer Associates Survey again ranks Kaye Scholer as having the best program both nationwide and in New York. This is the second consecutive year in which the firm earned a perfect “5 out of 5” score in every category summer associates were asked to rate their firms.
“We are pleased that our summer associates continue to appreciate our unique approach to the program,” said Kaye Scholer managing partner Mike Solow. “We forgo the traditional ‘rotation system,’ providing each summer associate with a customized experience that enables them to work through as many real-life legal situations as possible.”
The American Lawyer’s latest survey of summer associates includes responses from 4,200 summer associates at 93 firms. Summer associates were queried on the level of training and guidance they received, how interesting and “real” the work was, how often they interacted with partners and associates, how accurately the firm portrayed itself and whether the firm is a good place to work overall.
Litigation partner Catherine Schumacher, co-chair of the Kaye Scholer Summer Associates Program with Real Estate partner Sal Mastrosimone, recently noted that the program’s size is also an asset that helps garner such positive feedback. “The small size allows us to customize the experience for the summer associates and allows them to develop their interests the way they want to, not the way we think they should,” she said, adding that the size helps the summer associates form better relationships with partners.
