The Deal addressed recent press reports about Google Inc. planning to spin off the handset manufacturing operations of Motorola Mobility to Chinese telecom firm Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.
According to Kaye Scholer Partner Farhad Jalinous, who focuses on National Security and CFIUS reviews, “Huawei's very rich history with CFIUS guarantees that a deal would be looked at skeptically. If this were allowed it would be a very important first step for Huawei."
“Google would be wise to get CFIUS's reaction as early as possible if a deal did go forward,” Jalinous added. "Google would want to make sure there was no retroactive action.”
