M. Zafar Asghar practices law in the area of aircraft and equipment finance and leasing transactions for U.S. and international companies, banks, leasing companies, hedge funds and private equity funds. His principal area of concentration is on commercial and private jet aircraft transactions.
Mr. Asghar’s structured finance experience includes the representation of underwriters, placement agents, investors, banks, borrowers and liquidity banks in securitizations involving a variety of assets.
He is a member of the Aviation Finance and Leasing Group, which has represented companies located or doing business in over 40 countries throughout the world. Mr. Asghar has extensive experience in structuring, negotiating, documenting and closing sophisticated financing and leasing transactions (including tax-based leveraged and cross-border leasing, operating leases, PDP financings, portfolio securitizations and ECA financings), with particular experience in fleet financing, acquisition and financing of private jet aircraft, and fractional interest ownership programs.
Mr. Asghar represents major private jet aircraft companies in the U.S. that provide a variety of products. His clients also include ultra-high-net-worth individuals acquiring private jet aircraft. These transactions have involved complex ownership structures, sophisticated financings, including on-shore and off-shore financings, Sharia-compliant transactions, mortgage loans, sale-leasebacks and finance leases from U.S. and international banks, and the negotiation of purchase agreements and management agreements with all the leading manufacturers and management companies.
