Philip Smithback is an Associate in the Intellectual Property Department. His practice focuses on intellectual property and complex commercial litigations. He has represented clients in patent litigations across a range of fields, including pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, electronics and consumer goods manufacturing. He has also worked on trademark, copyright and land use litigation. Philip has participated in all stages of trial preparation, and has experience with discovery, depositions, brief writing and motion practice in both Federal and State Court proceedings.

In addition to his intellectual property practice, Philip has also done extensive pro bono work. He has counseled low income entrepreneurs on the legal aspects of their businesses, as well as how to obtain intellectual property protection for their products and services. Before that, he worked in the Rock Laboratory researching the physical properties of unconventional myosins X and XV in order to understand how their selectivity for different cytoskelletal features allows the targeted delivery of intracellular cargo.
