Meredith Stead is a member of the firm’s Tax & Private Clients Department in the New York office. Her practice areas include estate planning and administration; advice on wealth preservation, transfer, and management; charitable giving; and individual and entity tax compliance and reporting. She has represented clients in federal and state audits, offers in compromise, voluntary disclosures, and Surrogate’s Court matters.
Meredith also has extensive experience in forming and advising tax-exempt organizations on federal and state compliance issues.
Meredith received her JD from New York University School of Law, where she served as a Senior Executive Editor on the Law Review and a Student Editor on the Tax Law Review. She also holds an Advanced Professional Certificate in Taxation/ Estate Planning from NYU Law.
Meredith received her BA from the University of Chicago, where she graduated cum laude with a major in Human Behavior and Institutions.
Meredith was recognized for pro bono services at MFY Legal Services’ 2007 Pro Bono Recognition event, at the Legal Aid Society’s 2010 Pro Bono Publico Awards, and in 2014 by Law360. She also received the Empire State Counsel award in recognition of pro bono services from the New York State Bar Association in 2013 and 2014.
Meredith previously served on the Executive Committee of the NYSBA Young Lawyers Section, and has participated for several years in the Summer Law Institute for rising ninth graders sponsored by Legal Outreach, a legal education nonprofit organization.
