Community Outreach

There is a rich tradition throughout the Firm of giving back to the community. Kaye Scholer has established a partnership with the Bronx School of Law, Government and Justice, a school which is composed of inner city students. For the last four years, Kaye Scholer lawyers have coached the school's mock trial team. In 2006, the team won both the New York City and the New York State mock trial competitions. Last year the team was one of the finalists in the New York City competition.

Among the other projects the Firm has undertaken are a mentoring program which pairs a high school student with a Kaye Scholer lawyer. Last year, we launched a program in which the Firm's lawyers assist Seniors with their college selection and applications. Our lawyers have also judged moot court competitions and conducted mock negotiations at the school.

The firm provides paid internships for students from the school both during the school year and the summer. We are proud to have established the Kaye Scholer Legal Scholar Award. The award, which includes a stipend, is presented at graduation to a distinguished senior.

Kaye Scholer lawyers also work in the community as a team though Kaye Cares, a firm-supported community service program, which offers opportunities for attorneys and staff to volunteer for non-legal community outreach. Each spring and fall, working with New York Cares, a nonprofit organization that "meets pressing community needs by mobilizing caring New Yorkers in volunteer service," employees of the Firm participate in citywide initiatives such as refurbishing school playgrounds and community gardens.

Over the past several years, Kaye Scholer lawyers and staff have participated in Letters to Santa, a holiday program in which they sponsor several classes of children at P.S. 79, an elementary school in the Bronx, by donating toys requested in the children's letters to Santa. Kaye Scholer employees also participate in other holiday programs such as the Salvation Army Toy Drive and Toys for Tots.

Firm personnel have raised money through their participation in a wide range of community service fundraising projects, including: Race for the Cure, Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day, Leukemia and Lymphoma Light the Night Walk, Revlon Run/Walk for Women, City Harvest's Skip Lunch.
