Wednesday, November 10, 2010
Marc S. Cohen, Partner and Los Angeles Chair of the Business Reorganization and Creditors' Rights Practice Group, was a featured speaker at a bankruptcy conference presented by the California CPA Education Foundation in San Francisco on November 10, 2010. Mr. Cohen's lecture, which provided an overview of common instances of fraud in bankruptcy and lessons learned from major California bankruptcy cases, was also broadcast via webcast. Mr. Cohen's presentation included insights into the bankruptcy cases of Bruce McNall (former owner of the Los Angeles Kings), Reed Slatkin (founder of Earthlink), William J. “Boots” Del Biaggio (former owner of the San Jose Sharks and the Nashville Predators), Ezri Namvar (a Los Angeles-based Iranian real estate magnate), and Peter Pocklington (former owner of the Edmonton Oilers). The lecture culminated with McNall, who served a six-year prison term after he was indicted for fraud, making a “surprise” appearance and sharing his own real-life stories and lessons learned. Alicia Clough, Associate in the Los Angeles Office, co-authored the material used in Mr. Cohen's presentation and featured in the CalCPA Education Foundation handout.
