Dr. Gottfried Freier is Special Counsel at Kaye Scholer and headed the Frankfurt office as its Managing Partner from 2007 to May 2012. Prior to going into private practice, Gottfried was in-house counsel with BASF Aktiengesellschaft in the Patent, Central Legal and Group Tax Departments, and later became General Counsel of BASF Pharma, with worldwide responsibility for legal, taxes, insurance and trademarks.

An antitrust partner in the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation department, Claudia represents Fortune 500 companies in significant antitrust matters, particularly high-profile mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures, as well as in private antitrust litigation and civil investigations by the FTC, the US Department of Justice (DOJ), and numerous international regulatory agencies. Her experience in antitrust matters spans a widely diverse set of industries, including consumer goods, defense and aerospace, natural resources, technology and health care.

Michael J. Malecek is Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property Department and a member of the White Collar Litigation and Internal Investigations practice. Mike represents some of the leading biotech and technology companies in the US, including Google, Sequenom, Affymetrix, Complete Genomics, and salesforce.com. His practice largely focuses on patent litigation, but he has experience in all areas of litigation, including general commercial, white collar, compliance, securities and employment. He has served as trial counsel in over a dozen jury trials, all of which resulted in victories for his clients.
