Leora Ben-Ami’s area of concentration is in intellectual property and patent litigation. Her practice includes all areas of technology, including biotechnology, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and chemistry, mechanical devices, and electronics. She has tried many jury trials as lead counsel and has extensive appellate experience, having argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit several times and having clerked there. Ms. Ben-Ami has litigated approximately ten cases for Pfizer Inc. in the medical device area. Her long-standing representation of Pfizer has included such reported decisions as American Standard v. Pfizer, in which Ms. Ben-Ami represented Pfizer in invalidating a medical device patent and Schneider v. SciMed, where she obtained a judgment of approximately $68 million and a permanent injunction.
The International Who’s Who of Life Sciences Lawyers, 2010 recognized Ms. Ben-Ami as one of the 12 “Most Highly Regarded Individuals” in the world. She was also selected by the PWC Global Counsel survey as a “highly recommended” lawyer for intellectual property in the United States. In 2003, she was selected by The American Lawyer for inclusion in their “45 Under Forty-Five: The Rising Stars of the Private Bar.”
She is a prolific speaker at conferences and seminars on patent law, having spoken at the PLI, the New Jersey Intellectual Property Association, the Sedona Conference and many others, and she has published widely on intellectual property issues. Ms. Ben-Ami has also participated in legal education, having been the only practitioner on a panel with three federal judges to create a video on Markman hearings in the biotechnology area for the education of the federal judiciary.
Before coming to Kaye Scholer Ms. Ben-Ami was a Partner at Clifford Chance, where she was Chair of the Americas Intellectual Property Group, member of the Board, and member of the Executive Committee of Rogers & Wells.
