SAN FRANCISCO, September 14, 2023 — Arnold & Porter announced today that Meredith Osborn, former San Francisco City Attorney’s Office Chief Trial Deputy, has joined the firm’s White Collar Defense & Investigations practice as a partner, resident in San Francisco. Osborn led the City’s trial team while she was with the City Attorney’s Office.

Jonathan Hughes, head of Arnold & Porter’s San Francisco office, said: “Meredith is a first-class trial lawyer and leader in the Northern California legal community. Her arrival builds on Arnold & Porter’s recent additions on the West Coast that deepen our talented bench and bolster our product offerings.”

Amy Jeffress, co-chair of Arnold & Porter’s White Collar Defense & Investigations practice, added: “Meredith is a highly respected litigator with extensive civil and criminal litigation experience. She adds to our outstanding roster of litigators in our White Collar Defense & Investigations practice.”

During Osborn’s tenure at the City Attorney’s Office for San Francisco, she oversaw civil litigation on behalf of the City and County of San Francisco in the Bay Area’s state and federal courts and investigated and prosecuted cases brought under California’s Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices Statute. Prior to her work in the City Attorney’s office, Osborn was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California for six years, where she worked on the Organized Crime Strike Force and prosecuted cases involving racketeering conspiracy, money laundering, firearms possession, and drug distribution, among others. Osborn also previously served as an Enforcement Attorney with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and a policy advisor at the Department of Treasury where she helped establish the CFPB’s enforcement function. During the course of her career, Osborn has served as first chair in four jury trials and one bench trial, written 30 appellate briefs, and argued 13 cases before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

In joining the firm, Osborn commented: “Arnold & Porter’s White Collar & Investigations practice has a strong reputation for being a top-tier team with an excellent track record of results. I look forward to joining this talented group to provide our clients with unparalleled results.”

Osborn earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School, her M.Sc. in International and European Politics, with distinction, from The University of Edinburgh, and her A.B., magna cum laude, from Harvard University.
