How to Reduce Energy Costs in IT Outsourcing and Data Centers Through GreenTech

February 10, 2009

William A. Tanenbaum presented the fourth program in Kaye Scholer's GreenTech Seminar Series, "How to Reduce Energy Costs in IT Outsourcing and Data Centers Through GreenTech."

Topics discussed at the seminar included:

  • DOE and EPA initiatives to reduce electricity use and emissions at data centers and IT infrastructures, such as the EPEAT-certified equipment on the DOE's "DC Pro" energy assessment methodology

  • "Green Sourcing" — both the implementation of energy conservation and emissions control through outsourcing, and how to require outsourcing providers to comply with corporate GreenTech policies

  • Using data management to reduce energy consumption and emissions without changing existing technology

  • Using contracts to implement IT cost reductions and increase the efficiency of computer operations.
