New National Environmental Protection Standard Released

On November 21, 2008, the Ministry of Environmental Protection released new national environmental protection standards for several manufacturing industries, including coal mining, refining, lead battery production, tanning, synthetic leather, and printed circuit boards, effective February 1, 2009 (the "New Standards"). The New Standards set forth so-called "clear production" requirements in three classes: international advanced level, domestic advanced level, and domestic general level. The technical methods for data collection and calculation are also stipulated in the New Standards. Companies involved in the above-listed industries should monitor these New Standards and update their own internal standards accordingly.
